Technical Studies

Technical STudies and expertise/adviceIFTS conducts many different types of studies for its industrial clients, who transform matter and use Solid-Liquid Separation equipment. These studies are carried out in a pragmatic and rigorous way.

  • In the first place, IFTS identifies customer requirements by an examination of their specification objectives, qualitative and quantitative, and their operating constraints…
  • The next stage is the characterization of suspensions to treat: particle size analysis, concentration, filterability, compressibility… in order to predict the most likely behaviour in industrial equipment
  • Then different solutions are studied and compared:
    • Evaluation of alternative filter media (woven fabrics, pre-coating layers, granular beds…)
    • Comparative study in separative techniques adapted to specifications and products to treat
    • Piloting of the selected technology at the factory site
  • Finally, with these elements (specifications and comparative results) the solution is identified and consequently the different steps optimized and the process sized. Alternative technologies are proposed :
    • New solid-liquid separation equipment
    • New filtration media
    • Modification and/or automation of operating cycles (filtration, cake removal, cleaning…)
    • Improvement of physico-chemical conditioning
    • Any other relevant solution

The studies are conducted either at IFTS’s premises and/or at the client’s site on a laboratory scale (with a few dozen litres of product) and a pilot scale (using a few m3).

Expertise/Advice

In the same spirit of independence and rigour IFTS also assures:

    • Technological advice after an audit of a unit in service
    • Malfunction diagnostic
    • The latest in scientific and technological advances
    • Training of operators, supervisors and executives in separative techniques, and their applications to the site concerned

By its technical studies and research carried out for and encompassing all industries (chemical, agri-food, automotive, paper, pharmaceutical, mechanical), IFTS brings solutions to the problems of production, as well as to those of the environment.

Coagulation/Flocculation

IFTS possess a recognized expertise in the chemical conditioning, coagulation and flocculation, of liquids, pulps and sludge.

IFTS provides technical assistance to large water treatment companies, to industrialists, and to local government agencies.

Its tests and testing equipment, unique in Europe, enable IFTS to guarantee reactivity at a cost which allows for a good return on investment.

Our latest innovation, validated at the European level, is ECOFLOC: Evaluation of optimal COnditions of FLOCculation. ECOFLOC enables the simple and rapid quantification of the right dose of flocculent to add to sludge before thickening and/or dehydrating.

In addition, this test will evaluate if the hydrodynamics of the mixture of polymer and sludge and the maturation of flocs is sufficient.
